Opel has chosen the most important transport fair of the year, the IAA Transportation Hannover, to present its new Opel Movano Hydrogen, which will be unveiled on September 16. In addition, the new Opel Combo Electric and Opel Rocks Electric with the Kargo kit will also be on display at the German brand's stand.
Opel Movano Hydrogen: up to 500 km of autonomy
The Movano Hydrogen will join the battery version in the range, the Opel Movano Electric. The announced range is around 500 km without refuelling, adding the range provided by the plug-in battery and the hydrogen tanks. This is not much different from the range of the Movano Electric, which can travel up to 420 km on a single battery charge according to the WLTP cycle. But the Movano Hydrogen offers a fundamental advantage: to fill the hydrogen tank and regain range, a "conventional" refuelling at a hydrogen station is enough, a process that takes just 5 minutes.
The electric motor of This hydrogen-powered version of the Movano produces 110 kW (150 hp) of power and a maximum torque of 410 Nm. The battery, with a capacity of 11 kWh, provides assistance mainly when starting or accelerating, to relieve the workload of the fuel cell, which generates electricity on board from hydrogen. The electric motor also works as a generator in deceleration phases, recovering energy that goes to the battery. The system does not prevent the Movano Hydrogen from offering a Loading volume up to 17 cubic meters, with a payload capacity of up to 1.370 kg, depending on the variant.
Opel Combo Electric: more kilometers without recharging
Also in Hannover there will be the Electric version of the renewed Opel Combo -here you can read the Testing the Diesel Combo-, which in addition to the aesthetic changes with the Opel Vizor grille and the new interior, brings new features such as Intelli-Lux matrix lighting technology, becoming the first compact van to offer this system.
However, the most important advance of the new Combo Electric is the increase in autonomy by around 80 km compared to the predecessor model, now homologating a Maximum autonomy according to the WLTP cycle of up to 354 km.
Opel Rocks Electric Kargo: last mile delivery
Lastly, The small Opel Rocks is presented in Hannover with a new kit called Kargo, configuring an ideal vehicle for last-mile urban delivery, since its small dimensions (barely 2,4 metres long) and a turning radius of just 7,2 metres add the versatility provided by the additional modularly divisible load volume provided by this kit. The small Rocks with the Kargo kit and its 75 km of electric autonomy could be the solution for parcel delivery in urban areas.
